Rosalind Appleby bio






Rosalind Appleby is a Perth-based music journalist and author whose work covers a wide range of jazz, world and classical music. She is music critic for The West Australian and the WA correspondent for Opera magazine (London). In 2012 she founded the blog Noted which covers the Perth classical music scene.

Her book Women of Note (Fremantle Press, 2012) revealed startling discoveries about Australian women composers, completing the missing jigsaw pieces in Australia’s music history.


For several years she produced and broadcast the experimental radio program Difficult Listening for community radio. She has been interviewed by Andrew Ford on The Music Show and for programs on 3MBS, 2MBS, Radio Fremantle and RTRFM.  

Rosalind is a graduate of the University of Western Australia where she studied a Bachelor of Music Performance. She has worked as a music critic in Europe and China and has reviewed festivals and orchestras around the country from the 2006 State Opera of South Australia’s production of Wagner’s Ring cycle to Sydney’s experimental Now Now festival. She has contributed to a variety of national and international publications including London’s Financial Times, the Australian, Scoop magazine, Limelight magazine, Music Forum journal, Resonate magazine and The Opera Critic.
